“The most valuable player in Mitcham’s over 40’s veterans teams is awarded the Chris Chivers Medal. Chris played junior, senior and veterans cricket for Mitcham spanning 50 years from 1968/69 to 2017/18. He played 29 seasons of senior cricket playing over 200 games, scoring 2500 runs and taking 300 wickets. he played 4 games in the 1st XI. Chris’s top score was 113 in 1985/86, a season which resulted in a premiership in Shield 3rds and his best bowling was 6/30, also in the 3rds in 75/76. he also served the club in various roles including Vice President.
Chris helped get Mitcham’s first veterans team off the ground in 1997/98 and was the key person in its organisation for the next 20 years. he played vets until 2017/18 playing 148 games and taking 118 wickets (both club records at the time) as well as scoring 672 runs and playing in Mitcham’s first 4 veterans A grade premierships.
Chris was awarded Life Membership of Mitcham Cricket Club in 2000 and was later accorded the same honour from BHRDCA veterans. In 2014/15 the club named the award for best player in the over 40’s after Chris Chivers to recognise his exceptional service to veterans cricket.
