Graeme Hancock 2nd XI Medal
Named after Graeme Hancock since the 1965/66 season.
“The champion player of Mitcham’s 2nd XI is awarded the Graeme Hancock Medal. The Hancock family is one of the most esteemed families in the history of the club. Lindsay Hancock was a stalwart of Mitcham cricket Club being a player for 20 years from 1938/39 and a long standing administrator and life member of both the club and BHRDCA. Lindsay and his wife had 8 children including 5 sons all of whom played cricket for Mitcham; Tony-a Life Member and club champion, Keith- a club champion, Graeme, Robert and Gary. In total the family combined to represent Mitcham for 70 seasons.
Graeme was in his 5th season of senior cricket in 1963/64 and was a promising cricketer reaching the 1st XI before he was injured in a motor accident in March 1964 and later passed away. In 1965/66 vice president and later Life member Keith Spooner donated a trophy to perpetuate the memory of Graeme to be presented to the 2nd XI champion player, the first recipient being Frank Wikman. previously this award had been presented most seasons since World War 2 without a title but since being named the Graeme Hancock Trophy, Graham Joseph has been the leading recipient having won it 3 times.”
